PEST ATTACK: Contact the FCC about the merger
Not sure if the boys will sanction this but I think we need to take the initiative here.
Tell the FCC that you think this merger is unfair to you as a consumer and that you think they should prohibit the merger of XM and Sirius. Be sure to include terms like monopoly and consumer choice.

In reading this, I have become concerned the ratification of a merger between the two companies will not be in the best interest of the consumer, as they are two competing platforms and a merge will eliminate competition, reduce services, and reduce value for the consumer.
There has been a pro-merger argument that the satellite medium is in fact competing against the so-called “terrestrial” radio medium, but this is not the case, as this medium is a free service, and encompasses news, public, and emergency broadcasting, as well as free entertainment. Satellite radio is a premium service that in reality augments the free radio medium by delivering an array of services that differs from what free radio currently offers.
I hope to urge a complete and thorough review of this planned merger, as it will most certainly create a monopolistic atmosphere and reduce competition and choices for the consumer.
Sincerely,

The FCC says that interested parties must file initial comments by July 9. Replies to comments are due by July 24. Comments may be filed via e-mail and should include docket number 07-57.

wouldn't we, as a consumer, want to contact the SEC rather then the FCC?

We need to do whatever we can to try and stop this, even if it makes no difference atleast we know we would have tried.

where is the harm in having more content available? I like this merger and am looking forward to the merging of the content.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? You don't think that the FCC knows this deal is going on? Yeah, let's have all the pests tell the FCC headline news. Maybe that'll help matters. Dear christ almighty. Thank christ for the Pests!

I think this is falling on deaf ears.
I doubt XM or Sirius would go this far down the road if they weren't positive they were getting the green light from the SEC.

you naysayers are missing the point. if they get enough consumer complaints they will have to investigate the merger further. its not a stretch to see this shot down; they shot down the DirecTV/Dish Network merger.

Money talks. This is a 13 billion dollar merger.
You'd be surprised what you can get done when you grease the right palms.

There is already a prohibition against the two companies merging on the books at the FCC. The FCC Chairman has so much as come out and said this aint happining. We really don't need to make the FCC aware of anything as they're already not happy with the idea. It's preaching to the choir.

RMPGP,
Speaking purely as a consumer this is not good. It removes competition from the medium completely. I cannot see how the DOJ or the FCC can let this pass.

There won't be an Anti-trust issue here simply because sat Radio is still an emerging industry when compared to radio, cable, etc. Neither company has made a red cent since day 1 of operation. The FTC will look beyond issues of competition if the industry itself is in danger which Mel should have no problem proving for Sat Radio. The merger will be allowed provided they divest 1 of the licenses and some assets. They'll probably have a grace of period of 1-2 years to merge technologies or figure out a solution.
It's over Johnny. At least OnA still have FreeFM, that move now looks like sheer genius.

Why would i bitch about this...it was inevitable...it opens up yet more people to O&A and R&F...and i'm sure they're confident they won't lose fans and will only gain more...they're not going to get shitcanned from Satellite..

This is what the boys want?
Having to work under Karmazin's and Stern's rule again? Possibly losing "The Virus" and put on one of Stern's channels? Having to be censored about issues involving Stern? Having to kiss his ring?
If it comes to that I hope the boys blow up their Satellite show and go Free FM. And when it does I'm cancelling my Inno subscription.(Just gonna keep the one subscription that was gift for my parents).

considering they are telling FREEFM to FIRE them, i don't think that's the best fallback, at least recently with the ratings.
their fallback right now has been XM from getting canned from FREEFM.
considering their huge success on XM, i don't see how a merger will put them in danger.
worst case scenario is they get moved to afternoon drive time.
