Thumbs down Arbitron once again screws up its satellite ratings

Arbitron still doesn't send out diaries to Satellite subscribers or do they?

We will have to wait for a correction by XM or The boys for much more accurate data.

AQH
Average Quarter-Hour Persons is the estimated average number of persons listening to a station for at least 5 minutes during any quarter hour in a specific time period.

AQH Rating
Average Quarter-Hour Persons estimate expressed as a percentage of the population measured.

Cume
Cume Persons is the estimated number of different persons who listen to a station at least once during a specific period. The cume is sometimes called the "unduplicated audience," "reach" or "circulation."

Howard Stern Still Dominates Satellite Listening
April 24, 2008

Arbitron has released ratings for satellite radio for the fall of 2007 and Howard Stern's Sirius channels are still the most-listened to stations on either service. The survey found that over half a million listeners had signed up for satellite radio since the Spring 2007 survey. As one would expect, the NFL on Sirius and holiday-related stations saw an increase in listenership in the fall as opposed to the spring survey.

Howard Stern 100 on Sirius is the most listened to channel on satellite, with a 0.04 AQH rating and a cume of 1,210,000 listeners 12+. His Stern 101 channel has a 0.01 AQH and a cume of 501,100.

Over on XM, Opie & Anthony's Virus channel pulls in a 0.01 AQH 12+, with a cume of 171,300.

Sirius Hits 1 is the only other Sirius channel with over half a million cume.

On XM, the '60's, '70's and '80's channels all cross the 500,000 cume mark, with a 0.01 AQH rating.

The XM Top 20 on 20 channel had a cume of 1,049,200 and a 0.01 AQH rating.

The fall data further shows that for all of satellite's many niche stations, the channels that play the hits still continue to be the top rated music channels.

So the Decades channels have 5x the listeners of O&A?

And 20 on 20 has 10x the listeners?

Right.

I don't fucking understand it. Is Arbitron doing these wrong? Does E-Lo just lie to the boys to keep them happy? I hope they cover this at length tomorrow.

They explained it last time these numbers come out. Arbitron does it all wrong. They don't prompt for satellite radio listening, they are just adding up the numbers written into diaries and releasing them where they used to just throw them out back in the day. The biggest problem that O&A have is when someone writes that they listened to O&A and don't specify if it's on XM or FM then they just get arbitrarily listed in one or the other so the numbers are never right.

As long as their show and contracts continue, I don't really care if they only have 100 listeners. I'm gonna be one of them.

Didn't they make a comment about this at the end of the K-Rock portion of the show...

Something to the extent of "the ratings were pretty kind, actually."

At first I thought they were talking about the terrestrial ratings for NYC, but those don't come out until Monday.

Either way:

O&A RULE!!!!!!

'nuff said.

There's nothing to spin. The numbers are just plain wrong.

The correct answer would be zero point zero one, sir.

You'd know that if you had a GED or HS diploma.

Howard Stern 100 on Sirius is the most listened to channel on satellite, with a 0.04 AQH rating

Zero.....point.....zero.

I'd be interested in seeing O&A's combined numbers between all the terrestrial stations, XM live, XM replay, internet listeners, and audible.com. these numbers dont really interest me.

I don't care If it is me and a guy from minisotta listening. If they are on. I'm listening. I stopped listening to howard a long time ago. The show just isn't any good. It plods along very slowly and the jokes are the same. Let me guess, Arti did his acdc voice today.

If o and a were not on, I would listen to books on tape or road grime hit the underneath of my car before I would listen to a 60 year old man throw baloney at a strippers ass.

Everyones right arbitron have the numbers mixed up... 202 actually has 1.2 million listeners and howard only has 171 000... Please... O&A have less listeners but who fucking cares? They have the better pogram... Better show... More funny... I could go on but theres no point of trying to spin the numbers...

I'm pretty sure the surveying of actual subscribers has shown that Howard has a slight lead in satellite listeners (something like 100k lead maybe? I seem to recall 1 million vs 900,000), and O&A have the overall lead when FM listeners are counted in.

So Stern gets 1 million listeners on H100. Sirius 1 gets 1 million as well.

Where the fuck are the other 14 million listeners?

Is Arbitron on the take for the NAB? I'd love to know what their sampling methods are.

So 4.5 million listeners are accounted for here. I am to believe that the other 12 million or so listeners are that evenly dispersed throughout the remaining channels?

How many people are buying subs for Christian talk radio? Hip hop fans can't figure out how to operate one of these units, nor could they afford it.

There are a lot of things out of place here. I'm not buying into these numbers.

I actually believe this. I think the average person listens to Top 20 on 20. Its current pop hits.
